Course Description

The course will introduce students to the basic principles of rehabilitation research and program evaluation, including an emphasis on the critical review of published research for use in rehabilitation practice. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of the application of research and program evaluation tools to enhance the quality of rehabilitation services delivered.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of what research in rehabilitation means.

  • Discuss the unique factors impacting research that identifies individuals with disabilities from minority racial and ethnic backgrounds as the target population.

  • Be generally conversant in research methods as they relate to racial and ethnic minorities.

  • Discuss and critique published research articles and the impact that the research may have on rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with disabilities from minority racial and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate the ability to critique a research proposal.

Course Organization and Overview

The course will be completed through a progressive module/session format, which consists of six modules. Each module is designed as a stand-alone session, which can be inserted into existing courses of Project Empowerment collaborators.
